Hydrogen plays a central role in the transformation of the energy sector. Mannesmann contributes with its decades of experience in steel research, specialized expertise within the Salzgitter Group, and a deep understanding of a wide range of applications – from large-diameter pipes for energy infrastructure to smaller-scale piping and automotive applications.
Thanks to our strong position within the Group, Mannesmann is able to cover the entire process chain – particularly in the field of hydrogen – spanning the SALCOS® transformation project and research at the H2SteeLab to our Mannesmann H2ready® steel tubes.
Amit Bedi | CEO Mannesmann Precision Tubes GmbH
Sustainable mobility requires new powertrain concepts – and components that are precisely tailored to technical requirements. With its own product developments for vehicles with alternative powertrains and numerous automotive products, Mannesmann is actively shaping this transformation. The dimensions, materials, and technological performance of our precision tubes are specifically designed to meet the requirements of new powertrain systems.
Our pipes are driving the energy transition. By transporting heat transfer fluids, they play a key role in adopting electricity from renewable sources. Whether in biogas plants, geothermal power plants, solar fields, or solar cookers – our steel tubes meet the specific requirements of each application. In addition, renewable energy generation depends on our products: for example, as hydraulic components in wind turbines or drill strings in geothermal drilling.
Precision steel tubes are a key enabler for lightweight construction. They reduce material usage during manufacturing and, thanks to their lower weight, lower energy consumption during operation. This is exactly where we come in: We are continuously refining our products – focusing on strength, surface quality, and fatigue resistance. This allows us to create even more efficient designs, make material savings, and by doing so, reduce emissions throughout the entire lifecycle.

CO2 MANAGEMENT
Completely avoiding CO₂ emissions is just not practicable in many industrial processes. This is why emissions need to be captured at the source. Captured CO₂ is then transported securely and either put to specific use or permanently stored, for example deep underground. This prevents emissions into the atmosphere and measurably improves the overall carbon footprint. The prerequisite for this is secure transport and storage solutions, such as our Mannesmann CO2ready® steel pipes.
Hydrogen holds great promise for the future storage of renewable electricity: electrolysis and fuel cells enable a virtually emission-free energy cycle. Storage and transport however pose significant challenges, as hydrogen requires a lot of space or must be compressed or cryogenically cooled at great expense. Ammonia (NH₃) offers decisive advantages as a storage medium in this regard and can be safely stored and transported thanks to our Mannesmann NH3ready steel pipes.
