Our Mannesmann H2ready® steel pipes are manufactured specifically for the transport and storage of hydrogen. To ensure maximum safety and an even longer service life, we have designed them to significantly exceed the requirements of key guidelines and standards in many respects. Together with our in-house development partner, Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH, we are continuously advancing our Mannesmann H2ready® technology to meet even the most customized and demanding customer requirements.
High corrosion resistance
The exceptionally smooth inner surface of Mannesmann H2ready® steel pipes offers virtually no surface area for corrosion
Europe is transforming its energy supply: While renewable electricity is becoming key to this, it is not enough on its own. Hydrogen is set to become the second major energy source. To this end, Mannesmann combines its long-standing steel expertise, Group-wide know-how, and in-depth application knowledge. Our product range in the Mannesmann H2ready® sector includes pipes for hydrogen pipelines, hydrogen cavern storage facilities, and hydrogen tube storage systems, as well as high-pressure hydrogen tanks and high-pressure hydrogen lines for the automotive industry.
In Wolfsburg, two state-of-the-art gas-fired power plants will soon provide a dependable energy supply for the VW plant and the city of Wolfsburg. To enable them to run on hydrogen in the future, Mannesmann H2ready® pipes were already used in the construction of the supply line. In total, this involves nearly 1,900 pipes, each up to 18 meters long, in L360NE grade and largely with a diameter of 406.4 mm. The pipe route runs parallel to an existing pipeline and was laid over a length of 9 km using a trenchless method, ensuring minimal environmental impact. For this purpose, the pipes were additionally wrapped in glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP). A total of 14 HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) boreholes were drilled across rivers, canals, roads, and railroad tracks.
