Our HFI-welded steel pipes, “Mannesmann made for cryogenic media,” are made of high-performance bainitic steel and were specifically developed for transporting liquefied gas at ultra-low temperatures. Thanks to their comparatively low alloy content, they offer an economical and more environmentally-friendly alternative to cold-resistant stainless steels – while delivering dependable performance even at extreme temperatures as low as -196 °C.
A three-year field test conducted on the multi-pipe system of the FW-FERNWÄRME-TECHNIK GmbH energy company demonstrated the safe use of our “Mannesmann made for cryogenic media” steel pipes under extreme conditions. At temperatures as low as -196 °C, the pipes met all requirements for transporting cryogenic media. The inner tubes exhibited high toughness of 80 J at a yield strength of approximately 600 MPa. This significantly outperforms conventional stainless steels and allows for higher operating pressures with thinner wall thicknesses – clear proof of their performance capabilities.
