Steel Pipes for Cryogenic MediaMannesmann made for cryogenic media

Our HFI-welded steel pipes, “Mannesmann made for cryogenic media,” are made of high-performance bainitic steel and were specifically developed for transporting liquefied gas at ultra-low temperatures. Thanks to their comparatively low alloy content, they offer an economical and more environmentally-friendly alternative to cold-resistant stainless steels – while delivering dependable performance even at extreme temperatures as low as -196 °C.

BenefitsMannesmann steel tubes for cryogenic media

Safe operation at extremely low temperatures

Can be used down to -196 °C

Versatile applications

Also suitable for power plant technology, chemical plants, or plant engineering

Wide range of dimensions

114.3–610 mm

Ideal for LNG

Transport and storage with significantly reduced volume

For a range of temperatures

Material can be customized for lower temperatures, e.g., for transporting or storing liquid ammonia at temperatures below -33 °C

Excellent availability

Even in large quantities on short notice

More cost-effective and environmentally-friendly

Compared to cold-resistant stainless steels due to lower alloy content

Long-term reliability

Thanks to proven welding and joining solutions for piping systems that remain safe over the long term

Put to the Test:“Mannesmann made for cryogenic media”

A three-year field test conducted on the multi-pipe system of the FW-FERNWÄRME-TECHNIK GmbH energy company demonstrated the safe use of our “Mannesmann made for cryogenic media” steel pipes under extreme conditions. At temperatures as low as -196 °C, the pipes met all requirements for transporting cryogenic media. The inner tubes exhibited high toughness of 80 J at a yield strength of approximately 600 MPa. This significantly outperforms conventional stainless steels and allows for higher operating pressures with thinner wall thicknesses – clear proof of their performance capabilities.
