CO₂ emissions from steel production currently account for the largest share of emissions in the pipe supply chain, which is why low-carbon steel plays a key role in our sustainability efforts. We work closely with steel suppliers from within and outside the Salzgitter Group and who use and are further developing steel manufacturing processes with a lower carbon footprint. These include, for example, direct reduction of iron (DRI) and the electric arc furnace (EAF).
Our SALCOS® brand is the powerful result of our vision to transform the industry together with our customers and make a genuine contribution to decarbonization. Green steel products produced with electric arc furnaces are already available today, and additional products from the SALCOS® program will follow starting in 2027. By around 2035, we will be able to reduce our CO₂ emissions by approximately 95% with our green steel products.
In order to be able to offer our customers low-emission products today, we work with selected starting material suppliers. We are currently able to offer you seamless, drawn precision steel tubes of various grades with featuring the CO2 reduced label – thanks to a carbon footprint reduction of around 50% for the feedstock used compared to conventionally manufactured raw materials. We label these lower-emission products with the Salzgitter Group's "OUR Sustainable Solutions" labeling system.
