Description

Our seamless, drawn precision steel tubes are manufactured by cold forming of hot-rolled hollows. During this process, both the diameter and the wall thickness are nomrally reduced. The shaping is achieved through cold drawing, which ensures the high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish of these tubes. The mechanical and technical properties of the tubes can be specifically tailored to the respective applications through cold forming and subsequent heat treatments.

Lengths

The supplied lengths are subject to the following distinctions:

a) Production lengths between 4 and 7 m (13.123 - 22.966 ft) are supplied - unless otherwise agreed. The lengths per order item are not permitted to vary by more than 2 m (6.561 ft).

b) Fixed lengths with a permissible deviation from the ordered length of ± 500 mm (1.64 ft). Up to 10 % of the delivered quantity may deviate from the fixed length, but not by more than 2 m (6.561 ft).

c) Cut-to-length. Extremely narrow tolerances can be agreed for the ordered length.

Standards & materials

We produce our steel tubes in accordance with internationally recognized standards and use different, carefully selected materials depending on the application. You will find various standards and the materials specified therein under the following link. Further standards can be agreed on request. Additionally, properties and materials outside the usual standards can be specified and agreed. CO2 reduced materials

Compared to our conventionally produced raw material, which has a carbon footprint of approximately 2.1 t CO2/t steel, our seamless, drawn precision steel tubes in various grades are made from pre-material produced with a CO2 reduction of more than 50%. They are labeled "CO2-reduced" according to the Salzgitter Group’s labeling system “OUR Sustainable Solutions”. We also offer other grades with reduced CO2 emissions upon request. 

You benefit directly from a reduced Scope 3 of your greenhouse gas reporting, thanks our optimized pre-material sourcing.

Delivery conditions
Designation Symbol Description
Cold finished, hard +C No heat treatment after the last cold forming pass. The tubes therefore feature lower uniform strain and elongation at rupture.
Cold-finished, soft +LC The final heat treatment is followed by a cold finishing pass (cold drawing) with a slight reduction of the cross section. Given appropriate further processing, the tubes may be cold formed to a greater extent than in the +C delivery condition (e.g. by bending and/or expanding).
Cold finished and stress-relieved +SR The last cold forming pass is followed by a heat treatment. Thanks to the reduced lattice stresses, the tubes can be more readily shaped or machined.
Soft annealed +A After the last cold forming pass, the tubes are annealed in an inert gas atmosphere. The associated forming of the plate shaped cementite results in reduced hardness and good forming properties.
Normalized +N After the last cold forming pass, the tubes are normalized in a controlled atmosphere.
Quenched and tempered +QT The quench-and-temper treatment increases the material's strength, toughness, and wear resistance. It is carried out on materials with increased carbon contents. Quenching at high temperature gives the material very high hardness. The required strength and toughness are achieved by tempering. The hardened product is then reheated to a specific temperature and cooled in air. This reduces the material's hardness and increases its toughness.

Tube processing

We have acquired our expertise over many years and offer a wide range of possible further processing steps for steel tubes. We actively support you with your plans - from sawing and machining of the tube blank to complex bending and upsetting operations.

We can also reduce eccentricity and improve concentricity by turning and grinding, create complex geometries with processes such as rotary swaging and axial forming, and modify properties with the aid of partial heat treatment.
