Mannesmann CO2ready® for the coming Carbon Dioxide Transformation
In numerous sectors, the complete elimination of CO2 emissions is an impractical goal due to inherent industrial processes.
Consequently, to mitigate the impact on climate change, it becomes essential to capture these emissions at their source. This captured CO2 can then be transported securely to designated locations, where it is injected deep into geological formations or used in various carbon utilization processes.
Such practices not only prevent the release of CO2 into the atmosphere but also contribute to the reduction of the overall carbon footprint of these industries.
Safe and efficient transport and storage of CO2
Mannesmann pipes are CO2ready® even in supercritical CO2 states
Renowned research institutions have extensively tested HFI-welded steel pipes manufactured by Mannesmann Line Pipe during the SARCO2 project.
The aim was to determine whether our pipes withstand corrosive impurities in the gas and how they perform under supercritical conditions (liquid and gas) of the CO2 during pipeline transport.
The pipes passed all tests with flying colours, even during full-scale burst tests they exhibited outstanding toughness and crack arrest behaviour.
This shows that our pipes are the ideal choice for large scale pipeline transport of CO2.
Mannesmann pipes transport CO2 in the Port of Rotterdam
The Porthos project by the Port of Rotterdam collects CO2 from industrial processes in the port and transports it to depleted gas fields in the North Sea.
